🧟 Story Summary
Gerry Lane, a former UN investigator, is living a quiet family life when a sudden zombie pandemic breaks out worldwide. The infection spreads incredibly fast — victims turn into zombies within seconds of being bitten. To protect his family, Lane is recruited by the UN to help find the source of the outbreak. He travels across the globe (South Korea → Jerusalem → Wales) investigating clues. Eventually, Lane discovers that zombies ignore people who are already terminally ill. This insight leads to the development of a “camouflage” strategy, where humans can temporarily infect themselves with curable diseases to avoid detection.
⭐ Highlights
Fast-moving, swarming zombies (different from the traditional slow ones). Huge set-pieces: Chaos in Philadelphia’s streets. The zombie wall climb in Jerusalem. The tense WHO lab infiltration finale. Global scale — instead of focusing on one location, it shows the pandemic spreading everywhere.
🎥 Reception
Box office: ~$540 million worldwide (huge success). Critics: Mixed-to-positive — praised for suspense and Brad Pitt’s performance, but criticized for deviations from the book and some production issues. Fun fact: The third act was heavily reshot — the original ending was very different and more war-focused.
